Mark Barbour is the CEO of Specialty Tax Advisors Inc., one of the nation’s leading firms specializing in advanced tax strategies for real estate investors and business owners.
Starting his career in 1990 at KPMG’s Los Angelas tax Department, Mark advised clients in the real estate and the financial institutions practice. From there Mark consulted on a variety of Resolution Trust Corporation clients with the collapse of the Savings and loan Industry in the early 1990’s including loss mitigation at Glendale Federal Savings Bank.
Mark is known for simplifying complex tax strategies into clear, actionable insights. His current focus is on retroactive tax planning leveraging ITC’s and structuring tax efficient investments into data centers campuses powered and cooled by renewable energy sources.
Mark is a frequent national speaker and continuing education provider for CPA firms, architecture and design-build teams, and energy-focused trade associations including the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and has also served as a Guest Lecturer on Cost Segregation at University of Southern California’s Master of Business Taxation (MBT) Program.

Mark is an esteemed council member of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Accounting Industry Leadership Council (AILC).
Specialty Tax Advisors supports the Alzheimer’s Association which leads the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.
This cause is near and dear to Specialty Tax Advisors founder, Mark Barbour, after he lost his father to end stage Alzheimer’s disease. Throughout the year our team participates in multiple events to raise money and drive awareness of this horrible disease that currently has no cure.
Inspire Napa Valley, founded by wine industry tastemaker Kerrin Laz after her mother was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s. Kerrin founded Inspire Napa Valley in 2018 to raise critical funds and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease in the Napa Valley, with proceeds directed to support the Alzheimer’s Association. Since its inception Inspire Napa Valley has raised over $7.5 million to support the cause.
Specialty Tax Advisors participates in several Inspire Napa Valley events annually including the Spring Wine Weekend in April 2025 which raised over $1.1M and the Winter Food and Wine Fete Recap in December 2024.
The Alzheimer’s Association holds the Walk to End Alzheimer’s® annually in more than 600 communities nationwide and is the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research. In 2024 they raised over $100M across the US. Specialty Tax Advisors sponsored a team for the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s® in Irvine, CA. The Walk in Irvine has so far raised over $543,000. Our team was recognized as a Top 15 Team and one team member was the 8th highest in individual fundraising. We hope you will help our fundraising efforts by donating to this cause.
